The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
