Each time a prominent honors show draws close, one notices a clamor for introducing fresh award types to honor underappreciated efforts and satisfy the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.
A fellow writer made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. The same goes for tabletop games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front since similar to blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent above others. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Categorizing art by genre is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. But it is an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.
To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories actually cover many game types, making space possible for numerous titles.
Not so for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to put them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Which classification works within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Recognition Challenges
There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games released every year without proper recognition in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.
- An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely that year
- A different innovative game was excluded that year
- Well-received sorting experience was overlooked recently
- Just some logic titles barely qualified for independent or mobile categories
Importance of Logic Titles
Commonly they're compact experiences, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for over a decade.
The iconic tile-matching title competes with popular creative games claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.
Proposal and Rationale
Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. You could fill a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.
Restating the point, these represent titles without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers operate at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay decades.
