Norris Leads Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed Oscar Piastri at all of the last five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Until that point, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to escape with just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho turn before the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619secs off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
