The European Union could “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it deems “unjustified” visa bans imposed by the United States against five European individuals working on fighting online hate and misinformation, an EU official has said.

EU Officials Condemn US Action as ‘Intimidation’

European leaders including the French president accused the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, following the travel bans were placed on individuals that were central to campaigns to enact legislation regulating American tech companies.

“For too long, ideologues in Europe have led coordinated campaigns to pressure American platforms to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” wrote a senior US official in a social media post. “The current administration will not stand for such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”
